Introduction

Yo! Your friendly neighborhood Viper here to give you a review on the TM P90 AEG.

*A WORD OF CAUTION. HOLD THIS GUN BEFORE YOU PURCHASE IT NO MATTER WHAT.*

Now, for some background information on the Real-Steel P90, we take information courtesy of Modern Firearms & Ammunition (http://world.guns.ru/main-e.htm).

“The FN P90 submachine gun (SMG) was developed in the late 1980s as a defensive weapon for the troops whose primary activities does not include small arms - vehicle and tank crew members, artillery crews etc. Standard pistols and SMGs chambered for pistol rounds were proved ineffective against enemy soldiers, wearing armor (bulletproof) vests, so FN Herstal developed a new round with enhanced penetration - the SS190. This round looks like scaled down 5.56mm NATO round and forces the pointed, steel core bullet to the 600-700 meters per second at the muzzle, thus being capable to defeat standard CRISAT helmets and armor vests at reasonable distances (50-100 meters).

The P90 is a blowback operated, selective fire weapon. It is fed from 50-rounds box magazines, made from translucent polymer. The magazine is being located above the barrel, with the cartridges being aligned at 90 degrees to the barrel axis. Each magazine has built-in ramp that rotates cartridge to align it with the barrel prior to chambering it.

The P90 controls are completely ambidextrous, with charging handles located at the both sides of the weapon, and the safety/fire mode selector is located below the trigger. The P90 also features downward ejection of the spent cases. P90 is built in bull-pup configuration, with polymer stock, and features built-in reflex collimator sight with 1X magnification and rectical automatically adjustable to the light level, as well as a set of the backup open sights. P90 may be equipped with special silencer, that should be used with special, sub-sonic variant of the 5.7x28mm cartridge.”

Okay, now that you are familiar with the background of the P90, time to start the review.

First Impression

I had always wished for a TM P90. So, when I was finally given the chance, I purchased one from DEN Trinity Shop (http://www.dentrinityshop.com/). For a sweet package price of only $269, my TM P90 TR came about five days after I ordered it. The package I ordered came with one TM P90 TR, one 8.4v 600mAh battery, one standard magazine that holds 68 rounds, one Hi-Cap magazine that holds 300 rounds, and one SOCOM-style Marui Suppressor. I was very impressed with how to hold the weapon. It fits me like a glove. And because of where the trigger is located, you can hold this weapon one-handed, no problem, leaving you with the awesome option of spraying your opponent with dual P90s…OF DOOM!!!!
*Ahem* Right then, now, the P90, no matter which of the two versions, is a ‘love-it-or-hate-it’ gun. Some players cannot play with the P90 no matter what, and others swear by their gun. I just happen to be one of those players that swear by it. No big surprise, eh?

Function
This little puppy runs on the EG1000 motor, a very small motor that packs quite a punch. Now, because this gun is a bull-pup, the BB’s feed into the chamber which is above the back hole of the P90 when you look at it from the outside. The gun may look small, but it packs the range of a TM M4A1 Carbine due to the fact that the inner barrel is as long as a TM M4A1 Carbine’s. Therefore, this gun can be used outdoors in the fields of Airsoft Hawaii, but in Urban Combat is where it shines.

Ammo capacity shouldn’t be a problem. I mean, come on. Standard magazines that hold 68 rounds?? You’ll probably get shot before you can waste your magazine. Unless you’re playing a round of full auto…That’s where Hi-Caps and the infamous Box Mag comes in handy.
If you intend on playing all day, then the single 8.4v 600mAh battery may not be enough. Carrying around an extra battery would do you good. However, if you do decide on purchasing the P90 Box Mag, that allows you to easily modify your gun to be able to hold the 9.6v large battery style. Ah, the goodness of a P90 Box Mag just warms my soul…
The hop-up unit is accessible one of two ways. The harder way is to slide the…uh, slide back and adjust it there. The billion times easier way is to remove the upper receiver by removing the magazine and pushing down on the tab, then pulling the upper receiver out.

Appearance and Build

Well, the P90 TR would appear to be the same as the P90 RDS. But that is where many people are wrong. There is a distinct difference between the two. And that difference is…the Red Dot Scope. The P90 Triple Rail does not have the built in Red Dot Scope that the…well…P90 Red Dot Scope does. The scope is replaced with a long rail so that you can mount whatever you like on top. There are two smaller rails on the sides as well, so that you can mount lasers or flashlights, or whatever floats your boat. The top rail also acts as “Iron Sights”. There is one rail on the P90 RDS, however, so if that’s all you want, then that’s good. Both P90’s operate the exact same. This is the only difference.

Anyway, the body is made up entirely of hard ABS plastic. Therefore meaning, you can bash this sucker ‘till the cows come home and it’ll still fire. I wouldn’t suggest actually doing this on purpose, of course.

Overall

The TM P90 is by far one of the best guns to come out of the Tokyo Marui factory. It may not be the prettiest thing in the world, but then again, it doesn’t have to be pretty to beat people down. With the P90 RDS version, you have the best of both worlds with your built in scope and single rail on the side for accessories. With the P90 TR version, you have room to put nearly anything on your three rails AND you get a neat SOCOM style suppressor, giving you even greater accuracy.
